new artist: cocorosie

ok not "new" but new to me! while lookin up stuffs for upcoming trip to vancouv i was looking at my hotel on a map. saw a vogue theater clicked on it & saw cocorosie was 1 of the acts that had been/will be there. the fact that they call their music "freak folk" is great, so had to investigate & me likey. (they also have an interesting family background)

cocorosie myspace. love the description from this blogger: "I love CocoRosie. Listening to their music is like falling down a rabbit hole after a couple of shots of Absinthe and skipping your way through Wonderland sipping mushroom tea as you cross paths with werewolves, unicorns, rainbow warriors and other amazing creatures on your way."

new artist: brittany bosco

as i ALWAYS say, i use the term "new" losely when it come to my new artist post. pretty much just means new to me.

courtesy of 1 of the artsy fartsy groups chad hangs in i found out through him about brittany bosco. i imagine the music scene in atl is fairly close knit & encouraging, so hopefully she'll be "make it" soon :)

think she's considers indie/soul/rb or somethin. it's a clean young sound to me, so it works. her myspace here to have a listen

to see more pics, she has a rack here: http://brittanybosco.ning.com/ her style's like everyone elses (h&m + thrift store + american apparel, etc) but she's pretty & talented so it works.

new artist: sophia fresh

as i always say, maybe not "new new" but new to ME! how did i find them? was checking out music on necolebitchie.com, mainly that somehow teyanna taylor (my fav!) & kelly rowland had the same song lined up for their 1st singles... the post later mentioned a song called superbad that diamond & sophia fresh both did & produced videos for (the latter's video below).

like how hype they were in their video so i thought i'd explore more... i also appreciate when folks dance & don't do the i want to stand around in designer clothes and sell my sexiness angle. don't get me wrong they still are working the young pretty girl sexy angle but at least it's active (ok i'm biased bc i love dancing!) sophia fresh myspace. their official website is sensory overload w/ all the colors, but it's cute

new artist: livvi franc

again not really "new", but new to me. as i was listening to omarion's speeding saw this chic that looked like ciara, so decided to click on her video & see what she sounded like...upon a closer look she doesn't look (or sound) like ciara & i like her

apparently, livvi has bajan heritage too, but more talented than rihanna as she sounds better & writes a lot (sorry for that unecessary low blow). here's her website

new artist: hazel e

friend just told me a guy we know from howard appeared on bossip as having been in a homosexual relationship w/ a popular r&b singer (who's apparently bi)...

after reading that story i started looking around at their other stories and came across this video:

it's such a cutesy, pop-py song i had to learn more about this girl. she kinda looks like lala...and looks kinda old to be singing a song about valley girls but whatevs. she's gotta be like bbf's with
megan goode bc looking through pics of her megan goode is always around.

afterlistening to the songs on her myspace page i must say i'm intrigued & def wanna hear more. (operation download when i get back to va)

new artist: the moldy peaches

not new per se but new to me :)

forgot i wanted to download the juno soundtrack a looooong time ago...finally took a min to do it. while looking to see which song were on it came to a wikipedia page where it explained how the director of the movie asked the lead actress what type of music juno would listen to. she said moldy peaches. i knew of kimya dawson but didn't know she started out in a band.

according to their wikipedia page they're clasified as indie, but i like my term for them: folksy punkish (which wouldn't make since bc i keep reading they were a part of an "anti folk" movement). not sure what classifies folk, but to me it's something heavy with (acoustic) guitar, slow and story telling- which half of their songs are...whatever you call em they're great and i'm glad i found a new group :)
here's their super cute band site: http://www.moldypeaches.com/

new artist: emmanuel jal

AGAIN my "new artists" are rarely new they're just new to me...went to see the screening of war child last night... SUPER GOOD movie. really open sup your eyes to what child soldiers go through.

the movie follows the life of emmanuel jal who's a super famous rap artists now. in the film he talks abotu his story & camera crews are there when he goes back to sudan for the 1st time. the thing that struck me is that he's aware he has some mental health issue bc he hasn't really vented about his situation & how strong his wit & sense of humor are. i guess when faced w/ unspeakable tragedy, you HAVE to have a sound mind.

anywho the name rang a bell for me bc he's liek a reoccuring voice on bbc's world have your say (my fav thing to do at 1pm...listen to it at my desk). anywho his story is amazing & his music is pretty good...i feel really shallow to admit it, but while watching the movie i was trying to figure out if he's cute or not (terrible i know)...

new artist: Tim William

AGAIN courtesy of twitter's music monday i have a new artist i'll be watching...well he's not really new bc he's the keyboard guy from gym class heroes & kidz in the hall, but he's gone solo. as is the case with all artists here is his myspace page

here's the song i heard this am, "i wanna feel young"...mem likey the video bc of his pjs in the beginning & it contains dancers!

here's a great interview from format mag w him...in some repsonses he sounds liek he has an attitude, but i guess that's what sucks about text you set your own tone as you read it!...i love that he mentions chuck inglish (from cool kids).

new artist: big sean

as it goes w/ life, i was on twitter & discovered something new (again)...a guy named big sean. i follow biggie's daughter & she mentioned him being cute on tv, so had to look him up. he's not very big in stature but that's besides the point. his voice isn't that strong but i like his matter-of-fact-oh, i'm-a-rapper-whatevs delivery in his single: getcha some the video is super cute too.

apparently was signed to g.o.o.d. music by 'ye in 2007 (WHERE have i been) don't feel like going through this kid's bio, so here's his wikipedia page. apparently he went to cass hs in detroit which is cool bc i know a few folks who went there. also here's his myspace.

think people put him in the same class as wale & drake bc he's new but i don't think he's that skillful yet...must listen to him more before i officially decide though.

lastly, here's his freestyle in kanye's tent in kanye's trailer at sxsw last year...btw i HAVE to go this year...btw i think that's cudi getting his hair cut, right?!...h & common & amber rose are in the mix too

new artist: ester dean

again may not be new to some, but new to me... apparently she's signed to polow's label & "teyana taylor helped develop her"..not sure how true the last statement is though...apparently her "people have gone through great lengths to hide her face". very weird bc tried to google image her & all i found was the above pic...she looks pretty normal in her 1st single video here, so not sure why the enigma:

also good to see chris breezy coming back strong. plus this reminds me of those 90s vids when there used to be a lot of cameos.

here is a cute intro video on who she is...again w/ the cameos

new artist: the bots

as i do every am, i take a look at all of my homepages (daily beast, current, roll call, bbc world news & wikipedia)

saw their video on current-music & thought it was adooooooraaaaable! these 2 are brothers (anaiah, 12 on left & mikaiah, 16 on right) from glendale, ca. the vocals are ok (think mikaiah), he's amazing on guitar though. the drummer (think its anaiah) is killer! they sound like a baby offspring to me :)

(sidenote: not to be confused w/ the other bots.)

their website is super cute too. i'm also a fat girl so anything with doughnuts= good to me! this typewriter monster bot is from their site too. click here to see it

new artist: nouvelle vague

thanks to twitter found out about slacker.com. a free always streaming music place, like i-tunes but aesthetically more pleasing! was listening to the "indie chill radio" & it was awesome!...listened to some josh ritter, cat power, etc... then i heard "a forest" by nouvelle vague. i stopped in my tracks (no pun intended) bc i had to hear/learn more!

the next song i looked up was dance with me then love will tear us apart...& now i'm a fan :) 3 great things i found out in less than 10 minutes today: slacker.com is awesome!, indie music is sooooo nice to listen to at work! (used to listen to dolly, johnny cash or john mayer to chill out at work, but no more. all indie all the time), lastly nv is an awesome group and i LOVE expanding my music portfolio.

song o the day: a forest...so relaxing

new artist: major lazer

please note: when i say "new artist". doesn't mean new new, but new to me!
courtesy of hypebeast, i've learned the following about such a remarkable man:

“Major Lazer is a Jamaican commando who lost his arm in the secret Zombie War of 1984. The US military rescued him and repurposed experimental lazers as prosthetic limbs. Since then Major Lazer has been a hired renegade soldier for a rogue government operating in secrecy underneath the watch of M5 and the CIA. His cover is that of a dancehall night club owner from Trinidad and he enlisted the help of long-time allies and uber-producers, Diplo and Switch, to produce his first LP. His true mission is to protect the world from the dark forces of evil that live just under the surface of a civilized society. He fights vampires and various monsters, parties hard, and has a rocket powered skateboard.”

everyone knows i'm not a huge fan of raggae, but i'm impressed! (but how can you NOT be after that descriptions??) major lazer myspace here ofcourse next tshirt on my list is "guns don't kill people, lazers do"

Major Lazer - "Hold The Line" ft. Mr. Lexx and Santigold
